Troop 103 reaches milestone

Boy Scout Troop 103 will be celebrating 25 years after being started in May of 1991 by Henry Visser and Bret Osburn. During that time they have had boys join from different towns including Cairo, Dannebrog, Boelus, Wood River, St Michael , Nysted & Cushing. Out of those who joined 23 have made it to the rank of Eagle Scout.
The troop also remains active in many different things. They march in three parades every year, clean two miles of their adopted road outside Cairo, help the Dannebrog Boosters clean two miles of road, run a dunk tank at Cairo’s annual CornStalk Festival, organize a city wide rummage sales where they run a car wash and food stand. They also help bus tables at the annual Fireman’s smorgasbord in Cairo and pick up food with Scouting for Food for local food pantries.
They have sent scouts to summer camp at Camp Augustine by Grand Island every year but one. They attend as many council camporees as possible and camp at their own camp by Boelus twice a year. Other activities are bowling, canoe trips, Danger football, Storm hockey, video game camp and an end of the year celebration.
The troop would also like to recognize the dedication of their leaders: Bret Osburn joined scouting in 1987, Wade Osburn joined in 1991 and Randy Osburn in 1994. We have had other great leaders but these men have been the core for many years.
The troop will celebrate with a reunion and open house on May 28, 2016 at the Cairo Community Center.
