Centura students Paige Reimers and Jane Zimmerman attended the District 3 Nebraska Student Council Convention with Mrs. Carpenter, Student Council Advisor, on Thursday, February 12, 2015, at Grand Island Senior High. They attended mini-sessions, listened to guest speakers, and did activities with other students. Thirteen schools with 205 students and advisors attended the convention.
Later that day, the Centura Student Council met for a pizza party, sponsored by the Teens in the Driver Seat Program, for their efforts in promoting seatbelt usage. The student council recently presented a program on Driver Distractions during student prep, and displayed signs throughout the building on texting while driving. They also conducted a field observation of students driving while texting, listening to music, or talking on their phone leaving the parking lot at school. Surprisingly the results were 19% of the students used an electronic device while driving, and 81% did not.
