$10,000 of that annual proceeds from the Village sales tax was determined to be used on annual projects.  The Sales Tax Committee recommended that the Senior Center receive $8,000 towards much needed repairs for the Senior Center.  Some of the repairs included a new roof, fixing of a door, new ceiling fans and painting.

Team building combined with community service is how the Senior Citizen Center was painted. The Centura Football team volunteered their time and man power to complete the painting of the main room.  Big thank you to Coaches Larry Baker, Scott Korinek, Skeeter Wooden and Chris Bode for supervising the painting done by an awesome group of Centura Football players.

The Sale Tax Committee recommended that $2,000 of the annual sales tax be used towards maintenance and operation of all Village Parks.

There are currently 85 registered vendors for Junk Jaunt 2014.  The vendor booths at the North Ball Field are field.  Vendor locations at Christ Lutheran Church are still available but filling quickly.  If you would like to register as a vendor please click here.

Cairo will be represented from 9am to 9pm at the Nebraska State Fair, Tuesday August 26th.  Please stop by the booth to say Hi if you are at the fair tomorrow.

Cairo Junk Jaunt is in search of volunteers to man visitors center booths.  The booths will pass out maps, share our social media connections on Facebook and Twitter, sell t-shirts and passports and provide general information for the 20,000 people who visit Junk Jaunt.  If you are interested in volunteering a few hours at a visitor booth please contact Charity Adams at 308-379-9119

Cairo is introducing  a Cairo Junk Jaunt passport program to increase awareness of location in the community, raise funds for future events.  Junk Jaunt visitors can purchase a passport card, punch their card at various locations through out town.  When all locations have been punched passport holders will drop the passport in a registration bucket.  Completed passports will be drawn for a $100 cash prize, t-shirts, and Nebraska Junk Jaunt coffee cups.





UNK Professor H. Jason combs to speak at Cairo Roots Musuem

On Sunday August 24th, at 2:00 p.m., the Cairo Roots Museum will host University of Nebraska-Kearney professor H. Jason Combs who will speak about his recent article that was published in Heritage of the Great Plains. The topic for the day will be about the Balcom-Green collection of glass negatives that are housed at the museum, including the photographic process that Henry Balcom and Ray Green used to capture images of the Cairo area more than 100 years ago. The Balcom-Green collection also contains a number of images of prominent American icons and landscapes, ranging from the construction of the Manhattan Bridge and the Statue of Liberty to Old Faithful and downtown San Francisco.

Refreshments will be served following the presentation and the public is welcome. The Roots Museum is located in the Cairo Community Center.”

The Centura fall sports season gets started this Friday nights scrimmage will be both volleyball and football. The Volleyball team will be selling pulled pork sandwiches.  

The Football team is in the middle of a fall fundraiser.  Raffle tickets are:

Charity Marr Accepted Position As ABC Daycare Director


Charity Marr has been named Director for ABC daycare. ABC daycare cares for up to 70 children, 6 weeks to school age and provides preschool services to families in Cairo and the surrounding community.

A Centura graduate of 2002, she lives in Cairo with her husband  Ryan of almost 10 years, their 8 yr old son Landen and their twin 7 yr old girls, Hailey and Hattie.  Charity is a member of The Christ Lutheran Church and has also owned her own in home daycare.  She is looking forward to this new adventure and greatly appreciates everyone’s support!
