Maxine Roberts Maxine Roberts chosen as Grand Marshal for Cairo CornStalk Parade

Maxine Roberts will be the Grand Marshal for this year’s Cairo CornStalk parade. Maxine was born in Abbott Nebraska to Richard and Linda Spiehs. She has lived in the Cairo area all of her life. She graduated from Grand Island Senior High but went to school in Cairo. She then attended the Grand Island Business College and worked at the ordinance plant as a secretary. She married Wayne Sorensen on May 5, 1946 and lived in Cairo. Wayne & Maxine had two children Joyce Heger and Gordy Sorensen. Wayne passed away in 1970 and at that time Maxine went back to work at the Nebraska Veterans Home. She married Lavern Roberts on June 19, 1987 and they made their home in Cairo. Laverne has two sons Jack Roberts and Ray Roberts. Maxine has six grandchildren, five step grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

Maxine is an active member of the Cairo United Methodist church where she is a member of the United Methodist Women’s group. She was also a member of Dorothy Chapter #322, Order of Eastern Star where she was a past worthy matron. She enjoys playing bridge and has also enjoyed quilting. She also enjoyed dancing for many years.

When asked “Why do you like living in Cairo?” Her response was, “I’ve lived in Cairo most of my life and I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else. People are so friendly and caring.”  

The CornStalk Parade is Saturday, June 14th
Registration at 8:30 AM at the Northwest corner of the Community Center lot.
Parade begins at 10:00 AM
