Wood River Mennonite Church Bible School

Wood River Mennonite Church Summer Bible School Program will be featuring “The Bible – A Book of Answers or a Book of God-With-Us-Stories?’ this year. They will learn that the Bible teaches us how we can have a relationship with God and each other. They will find out how God’s promises are revealed to us in the Bible, and that the Bible can light our way throughout life.  All children ages 3 years old thru 10th Grade (2013/14 school year) are invited! Our Bible School will be held June 2 – 6, 2014 from 9:00 am to 2 pm Monday – Thursday.  On Friday classes will run from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm and then the Bible School Program will be held 1:00 pm with fellowship and refreshments following. Children need to bring a sack lunch each day.  We will have transportation available from Cairo and Wood River.  Pickup in Cairo will be in front of the Fire Hall.  Pickup in Wood River will be on the west side of the Elementary School.  Both pickup times are 8:30 am.  If children need a ride back – drop off times would be 2:20 pm to 2:30 pm. Mel & Joyce Grim (Mom and Pops Kettle Korn) – kettle korn

Dorothy Jarzynka – embroidered pillow cases, banana bread, bread (Friday only)

Kathy Baasch & Brenda Anderson (Country Garden & Kitchen) – radishes, kale, banana bread,  cookies, cinnamon rolls, rice krispies bars, cherry braid, breakfast burritos on Saturday.

Upcycling! New for the CornStalk Festival

Upcycling is process of converting old or discarded materials into something useful and often beautiful.  The Cairo CornStalk Festival will be holding an Upcycling Contest on June 14th for all ages!!  With a  little creativity, what was old can be new again—perhaps even better than it once was!

Invest in duct tape because…. you guessed it the boat races are back.  Lace up your sneakers for the FunRun and walk.  Clean off the flatbeds, shine up those Chevys, the Parade and competition will kick off the event.  When the watermelon is eaten and the games have been played, put on your dancing shoes for the street dance.  Mark your calendar for Cairo Cornstalk Festival, June 14th.

Cairo No Bummer Summer Youth ProgramParents don’t worry about hearing your kids say, “I’m bored,” this summer.  Cairo’s No Bummer Summer team has you covered.  Get your children registered for the 2014 No Bummer Summer Class line up.  We’ve added at least 10 new teachers, and 16 classes, plus one more bonus class we will announce time and dates for mid June.  Classes are held during the month of July at various locations through out town.  The No Bummer Summer class line up includes, robots, kites, tractors, farm animals, obstacle courses, green thumbs and much more.  Make sure you kids have a No Bummer Summer.  Click here for a complete class schedule and registration forms.

Junk Jaunt Taking Registrations for 2014

Cairo Junk Jaunt

Junk Jaunt is set for September 26 thru September 27th.

If you are participating in the Junk Jaunt by purchasing booth space or just holding a sale that weekend out of your garage please complete the registration forms located on the Vendor Registration page.

Cairo has reduced the number of spaces available at the Ball Park to reduce the traffic hazard making more parking available.  New vendor spaces are now available at Robinson Field and Christ Lutheran Church.

Booth Spaces and Cairo Registration Fee will cover the cost of:

  • Additional parking and no parking signs
  • Additional restroom facilities
  • Cairo Specific maps highlighting our local businesses
  • Cairo clean up

Cairo is asking for volunteers to man tourist information booths this year to sell Cairo Junk Jaunt T-Shirts, distribute Cairo Maps, act as tour guides for our town, register visitors for our email list and promotional drawings and share the Cairo Junk Jaunt experience on Facebook and other social media outlets.  T-shirt sales will go towards costs and various projects being developed throughout Cairo.
