October is Fire Prevention Month
The Cairo Volunteer Fire Department has 31 active members and 1 cadet. Of the 31 members 4 are new to the department just this year and the other 27 members have a combined total of 509 years with the department. They also spend many hours training and this is all volunteer work.
Our community is very fortunate to have such a wonderful and dependable fire department. With that however come expenses to operate and even more major investments in equipment that will be reliable and ready to roll when the call comes in. They do receive some tax dollars but their main source of income is through donations. Please remember these unselfish volunteers with your donations to insure their presence in our community in the future. Don’t know what to give that person that has everything at Christmas – give a donation to the Fire/EMT’s in their name. What do you give a special couple who is celebrating a special anniversary? Again, a donation in their name, what better way to show your respect for them to give something to the community that has been a vital part of their lives?
