Cairo Roots Hosting a meeting May 14

On May 14th at 1:00 pmthe Cairo Roots Museum will host a meeting with Mr. Ted Eubanks, a renowned Interpretive Planner from Austin, Texas. The purpose of the meeting is to gather information from people living along the Sandhills Journey Scenic Byway. Cairo is in the “door way” to the Scenic Byway. The goal in developing a Sandhills Journey Scenic Byway Interpretive Plan is to create in the visitor a sense of understanding and appreciation for one of the world’s great natural landscapes.
The SJSB Corridor Management Plan will also serve as an important source of information for the development of the interpretive strategy. Cairo will be only one of the stops along the way and everyone is invited to attend. Mr. Eubanks will be looking for input about the natural, cultural and historic qualities to ensure that the Byway story is told at the grass roots level.
Through the telling of the stories and with the information given the Byway’s story will become reality. Tourists will explore the dominant theme along the Byway as a “world class natural wonder” with an exploration of the history and culture of the region and how nature helped shape the people of this region. This information is critical to telling the Byway story and the story can only be shared by those who know the history and legacy of our town, Cairo, Nebraska.
Tourists will come through Cairo on the Byway. As more and more people take “stay-cations” in our great state and the brochures are printed, Cairo will be “on the map” again. We want to offer them things to see that will warrant a stop in the middle of the state for an afternoon of fun and learning.
Mr. Eubanks wants to learn the history, the facts and he also needs to hear about tourism opportunities along the byway. Please come show and share with him that Cairo is worth a second look with a first rate opportunity for a fun historical stop for the whole family.
